(SOLD) This is a 1946 Blue Diamond Parker Vacumatic Major in Azure Blue Pearl celluloid with a 14k gold F-M nib. The pen has been restored, which included a complete disassembly, an overhaul of the filling mechanism (using best practices in pen restoration and high-quality replacement components), ink flow adjustment, nib tuning, and a gentle hand polish. The pen measures around 5 3∕32" capped, with a barrel diameter of 0.48".
I wrote a phrase from a Parker Vacumatic advertisement, and I thought it relevant, as a lot of my customers are academics, both professors and students. I also spent many years as a university professor and used a fountain pen for most of my writing. Parker, clearly thought that teachers would make excellent customers, partly due to their discerning taste in writing instruments. If your job requires you to write a lot, you'd better have a reliable and enjoyable pen to do your writing with. The Blue Diamond indicated lifetime warranty, and pens with that designation were usually of higher quality and cost more.
This particular Vacumatic is in excellent shape. The celluloid is deep and rich, without any flaws or defects, and only with very minor surface wear. The red hues you see in the pictures are the result of the background showing through the barrel, as the transparency is excellent. You can watch the being being filled and gauge remaining ink level with ease. The gold-filled trim is in equally good shape.
This pen is a delightful writer! The nib is a fat Fine or a Medium-Fine, possibly sold as a Medium. The tipping material is plentiful and of excellent geometry. The nib feels soft without feeling mushy, it will give you a pleasant bounce if you write with a heavier hand. It writes a consistent, generous line, and I tuned it to write on the wet side, so you can enjoy your inks' shading and sheening properties.
