(SOLD) This is a vintage Sheaffer Triumph Vac-filler Fountain Pen in Gray Pearl celluloid, with chrome-plated trim, and with a 14k gold Triumph XF nib. The pen has been restored, which included a thorough cleaning, an overhaul of the filling mechanism, ink flow adjustment, nib tuning, and a gentle hand polish.
The quote comes from the Sheaffer Chairman, who, in 1942 was praising the Triumph nib, as the company's greatest achievement and a quality standard by which all other fountain pens should be measured. This particular Triumph nib writes an extra fine line that is beautiful and consistent. Ink flow has been set at a touch above average in wetness, so that you can further take advantage of the smooth, extra-fine line. The nib has an extra writing surface, if you flip it upside down, it will write a needlepoint line (a true hairline), without losing flow or smoothness. No modern nib can perform this way.
The vacuum filling mechanism is efficient, quick, and fun to use! It works perfectly, as it has been restored according to current best practices and with of high-quality replacement parts. The pen holds a lot of ink, more than most modern piston-fillers.
Cosmetically, the pen is in very good shape. The celluloid is rich and vibrant, and there's nice transparency in the barrel. You can see the pen fill (very cool!) and you can accurately gauge remaining ink level. There are no flaws or defects. The chrome plating, typically, did no wear very well in pens of the period, but this one is in quite a nice shape, better than most.
A beautiful example of this classic Sheaffer 1942 fountain pen, and now it can be yours. The pen is priced at $129. Please, contact me if you're interested in ordering it. Thanks!
